Iwo Jima survivor Lt. Col. George Alden, USAF Ret., passes a piece of cake to Lance Cpl. Jen S. Martinez, a combat correspondent with the 8th Marine Corps District, during the cake cutting portion of the Marine Corps birthday celebration at Fort Worth City Hall on Nov. 10. Alden was recognized as the oldest Marine present for the ceremony and Martinez was recognized as the youngest, symbolizing the connection between the Corps' past and future.

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price reads a proclamation stating that Nov. 10 is United States Marine Corps Day in the city of Fort Worth during the 236th Marine Coprs birthday celebration at city hall on Nov. 10. During the celebration, Marines and guests reflected on the illustrious history of the Corps and gave all Marines, past and present, an opportunity to connect in honor of the Marine Corps.

Col. Ted Studdard, 8th Marine Corps District commanding officer, presented guest of honor retired Lt. Col. George Alden a plaque expressing the district’s gratitude for joining in the celebration of the 236th Marine Corps Birthday Ball, Oct. 29 at the Marriott Solana in Westlake, Texas. Alden shared his experiences as a Marine during World War II and spoke of the undying connection that Marines will always have with Corps.

Sgt. Teresia Kamau, the training chief for the 8th Marine Corps District, helps Marines with processing travel statements at the district headquarters aboard Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth, Texas. Kamau has four different billets: noncommissioned officer in charge of the inbound section, assistant substance abuse control officer, district training chief, and the organizational Defense Travel System administrator. Kamau was named Marine of the Quarter for the third quarter and her “positive attitude” and “diligent work ethic” resulted in her selection as 8th MCD Marine of the Year for fiscal year 2011.
