Sergeant Major Cone currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Recruiting Station San Antonio, Texas. Enlisting in the Marine Corps on March 2, 2009, Sergeant Major Cone's career is defined by technical excellence in the Administrative Specialist field, distinguished leadership on Special Duty Assignments, and extensive operational experience within the Fleet Marine Force.
After completing recruit training at MCRD San Diego and Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, Sergeant Major Cone graduated from the Personnel Administration School at Camp Johnson,
North Carolina. In October 2009, he reported to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Camp Pendleton, serving as an Administrative Specialist within the IPAC Deployment Branch. In May 2011, as a Lance Corporal, he was assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit for temporary duty, serving as the Marine Administrative Reach-back Cell (MARC). During this period, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). His performance led to his selection for the I MEF Navy and Marine Association Leadership Award and a meritorious promotion to Sergeant on May 2, 2012.
In March 2013, Sergeant Major Cone reported to the Marine Aviation Detachment (MAD), China Lake, California. During this tour, he served as the Administrative Chief, Career Planner, and Detachment Color
Sergeant. His impact on the unit resulted in his selection as the Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for 2013 and an accelerated promotion to Staff Sergeant on March 1, 2015.
Staff Sergeant Cone reported to Drill Instructor School (Class 4-15) in July 2015. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Company A, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, where he served as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, and Senior Drill Instructor. Additionally, he was selected to serve as a Sergeant Instructor at Officer Candidates School (Company C, OCC 223). For his leadership and mentorship, he was peer-selected for the prestigious Dan Daly, Moral Leader, and Instructor of the Cycle awards.
Following his promotion to Gunnery Sergeant on December 1, 2018, he checked into MCAS Cherry Point. While serving as the SNCOIC of the IPAC Customer Service Branch his ability to manage complex
manpower requirements while simultaneously developing the professional growth of those under his charge was widely recognized. His technical proficiency, coupled with his reputation as a disciplined leader of
Marines, culminated in his selection as the 2020 Manpower, Personnel, and Administration Staff Noncommissioned Officer of the Year.
In January 2022, he returned to MCRD San Diego as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Company H. In May 2025, he joined 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, serving as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Weapons and Joker Companies, where he deployed with the 31st MEU (Patrol 25.1). Sergeant Major Cone assumed his current post as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Recruiting Station San Antonio on February 1, 2026.
Sergeant Major Cone's personal decorations include the (3) Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medals with 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, and (6) Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medals with one silver star in lieu of 6th award.
