Sergeant Major Steven Carlos Jackman is a native of Dallas, Texas. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 19 July 2004 from Dallas, Texas and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego, CA. Upon completion, he received training at Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, CA. Following MCT, he reported to Fort Leonard Wood, MO for Motor Vehicle Operator School where he received the MOS 3531 for Motor Vehicle Operator.
In January of 2005, he reported to 2nd Battalion 7th Marines at 29 Palms, CA, where he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. In June of 2005, he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was promoted to the rank of Corporal on October of 2005. During this deployment he served as a vehicle operator on combat trains. Upon returning from deployment in February of 2006, he immediately began training to prepare for the upcoming deployment. In December of 2006 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In January of 2007, he deployed with 2nd Battalion 7th Marines to Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During this deployment he served as a patrol leader for convoy security.
In December of 2007 he received orders to School Of Infantry (West) as permanent personnel. During this time he served as the Platoon Sergeant and attended Sergeant's school, Martial Arts Instructor course, Motor Transport NCO Operations course, and Motor Transport Licensing Examiner's course.
In April of 2010 he received orders to Drill Instructor School, Class 3-10, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA. Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, he was then assigned to Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion. During his tour as a Drill Instructor, he filled the billets of a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Series Chief Drill Instructor. In November of 2012 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In August of 2013 he received orders to CLB-7 29 Palms, CA. He participated in numerous Integrated Training Exercises and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During this time he served as a platoon sergeant, and assistant patrol leader. Upon return from Afghanistan he was hand selected to deploy in support of SPMAGTF in Kuwait, where he executed his duties as the Transportation and Services SNCOIC in February of 2015. Upon return he was appointed as the Transportations and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In May of 2016 he received orders to 2nd Marine Regiment Camp Lejeune, NC. Staff Sergeant Jackman served as the Motor Transport Chief, Motor Transport SNCOIC, and Company First Sergeant for HQ Company. In September of 2017 Staff Sergeant Jackman was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.
In April of 2018 he received orders to 5th Battalion 11th Marines Camp Pendleton, CA. On April 2019 he deployed to Japan on a UDP. He served as the Battery Motor Transport Chief, Battery Gunnery Sergeant, and Battery First Sergeant. In January of 2021 he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. On April 2021 he deployed to Japan, and Australia on UDP serving as the Battery First Sergeant.
In January of 2022 First Sergeant Jackman received orders to MCRD San Diego, CA where he served as Company First Sergeant Mike Company, Battalion Sergeant Major 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and in July 2023 he was board selected to serve as First Sergeant of Drill Instructor School.
In May 2024 he was promoted to Sergeant Major and received orders to 8th Marine Corps District and is currently serving as Recruiting Station Austin Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Jackman's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd
award, and Combat Action Ribbon. Sergeant Major Jackman holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Leadership from Trident International University.
