Major Joshua Brooks

Major Brooks graduated from the University of Virginia in 2012 and subsequently commissioned in the Marine Corps. Upon completion of TBS in July 2013 he reported to Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas where

he completed Initial Flight Screening and the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Instrument Qualification Course to become an Unmanned Aircraft Commander.

After completing training in March 2014,he was assigned to Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 3 (VMU-3) at

Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. First Lieutenant Brooks held multiple billets including Adjutant and S-1 Officer, Aircrew Training Officer, Current Operations Officer, and Aviation Safety Officer.

In March 2017, First Lieutenant Brooks deployed to the Philippines in support of Operation PACIFIC EAGLE as the VMU-3 Detachment B AOIC.

In July 2017, he was promoted to the rank of Captain. Upon his return from the Philippines, Captain Brooks served as the Director of Safety and Standardization (DOSS) for VMU-3.

In 2018, Captain Brooks reported to the Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, VA. After EWS, Captain Brooks received orders to VMU-1 where he served as an MQ-9A Unmanned Mission Commander.

In November 2019, Captain Brooks assumed duties as the VMU-1 MQ-9A Department Head, assisting in the transition of Contractor-Owned, Contractor-Operated MQ-9As to Marine Corps owned and operated aircraft.

In June 2020, Captain Brooks attended MQ-9A Initial Qualification Training (IQT) at Holloman, Air Force Base to be designated as an MQ-9A Pilot. After returning from IQT, Captain Brooks served as the VMU-1 Operations Officer.  During this time, Captain Brooks led the squadron stand-up and transition from an RQ-21A squadron to an MQ-9A squadron.

In July 2022, Captain Brooks reported to the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA where he was promoted to his current rank in September 2022.

Major Brooks graduated Command and Staff College in June 2023 with a Masters of Military Studies.

Upon completion of the course received orders to the 8th Marine Corps District in Fort Worth, Texas to serve as the Commanding Officer.

Major Brooks’ personal awards include: the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with ‘R’ device), and the 2018 MCAA James McGuire Award for exceptional achievement in Marine Corps Aviation.
